I was considering putting lockers in both front and rear. This is a 98 xj with 8.25 and D35 In front. This is my daily driver and I would like everyone's thoughts. Thanks

You have a Dana 30 front.

This was asked a couple of days ago.

It's all preferance & how deep your pockets are. Some like lunch box lockers, some don't.

You gonna wheel once a year or every other week?

Do you have a lift & bigger tires?

Have you ever been offroad?

I'd say first go see what your XJ will do in stock form & THEN see what you need to improve on.

If you're rock crawling or lifting tires yeah lock it up. one way or another. gears/lockers + auto trans it's almost like cheating. I get made fun of all the time for it

If you got coin..ARB air lockers.. hands down.. But expect about 1200 per axle.

If not.. Really anything up front...seen quite a few spartans break lately...coincidence..maybe.?

Im going to run Yukon Zip lockers in my 00...they are air lockers for a bit less than ARBs.
If your thin on cash toss lunch box lockers in.

no crap? I've always thought the spartans were the better drop-ins. mainly becuase they're more expensive. front or rear breakage?
those grizzly auto lockers look sweet too

Yes I have been offroad alot....its a stock xj looking to eventually go with a 3.5 lift in the next year or so. I was actually off road today and a locker would have came in handy. I don't want it to mess with my daily driving. I just assumed the front was a d35....built sheet only states 230mm front axle...my bad.

D35 is only a rear axle.. If you dont want it to mess with your driving at all..go selectable.. Youll pay for it though.

I believe that 2 of the three ive seen in the last like 2 months were fronts.. 1 rear.

Ok if I were to do just one axle would it be best to go with back first?

Thats really a toss up.. Some will say front first, some rear first..

Only locked rig I had was locked front and rear.. It seemed like the front locker helped a noticeable bit more than the rear.. so i vote front first.. but thats just me.

if you never use 4x4 on road (no snow etc.) then a front lunchbox is perfect. you will rarely ever notice it's there in 2wd
aussie, spartan, lockrite whatever. I run an aussie front and it works

What is the disadvantage of the lunchbox on the front in snow?

When the locker locks, the front may slide sideways a little or a lot depending on how much throttle. Think of a posi rear sliding sideways when you mash the go pedal, same effect, but up front.
I love my Aussie in my 8.25, it is predictable now that I'm used to it, just point and shoot. If it gets outa hand just let off a little and you're going straight again. I'm putting an Aussie in my Dana 30 soon, and I expect it to be pretty similar to the rear on the road. Not worried, just excited.
Fyi, my xj is mostly used for wheeling and driving in the snow.

i have a lockright in the front of mine. i dd my jeep 500 miles a week to and from work. i like it, i have not had any issues in rain. have not had any snow to drive in yet though so can not tell you how it will act in that department. it performs flawlessly offroad.

If your worried about dd with a locker dont lock the rear unless its a selectable locker cause u will notice it there i have a sparten up front so far its great great price easy install but if your stock with small tires an front an rear sway bars spend the money of other mods first
