This is what I run with my RE 3.5" + 4 degree shims in the rear. I ran a tc drop for two weeks n hated the vibes so I went ahead and got this. Still had minor shims after sye until I shimmed the rear axle. Drives perfectly smooth now.

If you got the sye you wouldn't need the transfer case drop. However your driveline angles might be off, which would cause vibes. In this case, you would need to shim the rear axle to get the driveline angles back in order. Mine needed a 4 degree shim to bring it within 1-2 degrees (that's optimal). Yours may require a different degree shim.

We don't want to hijack. This thread is for 4.5" without sye and ds. Shoot me a pm or start a different thread so we don't **** anyone off.

Did not need anything no vibrations, so far at least and runs a lot smoother

Very nice!!! Now my kit comes with a tcase drop included, so I'm just gonna throw that on anyway, so I'll prolly never know if I would have gotten vibes or not.

I just lifted mine 4.5 & did not have any Vibrations whatsoever! However yesterday while wheelin with a few other the rear driveshaft slipped out of the tailshaft of the tranny! Has anyone else experienced this little mishap? Is there a longer driveshaft that could be found in the JY to eliminate this issue? I dont really want to do the SYE If I dont have to!

Well ya should, b/c that's how ya fix that issue. I can say that a manual trans/driveshaft deals with 4.5" without an issue. I've pulled my AX15 before to rebuild it and noted a significant amount of engagement even at my height. Although not to mislead, I am running a 1" drop on the TC with my IRO long arms b/c it's part of the cross member. Its so smooth in my truck, you'd swear it was a Benz.........

not all 96s had the new T-case. I have a 96 sport with a 231J. I think it is a "J". I know for sure its a 231. Its a AW4 with an 8.25, but I haven't pulled shafts to find if it's a 27-spline or 29-spline tho. Im at 3" no going to 4.5" soon. By the look of my DS now I think I can pull off a 4.5" with no SYE but have a T-case drop ready on stand by. But I want to do the SYE if I need it, with the Front DS out of an auto as my rear DS. SOOO I can have 1 DS for back up with U-joints ready and it will work for both my Front and Rear if i ever need one. Now I just gotta figure what shim degree I'll need.

That's a bad sign. My theory is doing everything right the first time before regretting you should have done it when you have wrecked something that cost twice as much the second time. "Do it right or don't do it at all"

I got a feeling I might end up in the same boat pretty soon

You could replace the yoke with one from a TJ which is a little longer.

Well Mine is a Manual Trans as well & did figure out what most of the problem was, The right rear leaf spring pin was sheared off& the axle slipped rearwrds on the leafs! Rebolted It & reinstalled the shaft.. looks & Drives good again but the shaft is def further back out of tailshaft then before the lift so to be sure the shaft doesnt come out when putting extreme pressures on it I should prob do the TC drop huh? Or Maybe just a longer Yoke? What Year & Model?
