Default lifted xj grinding/squealing

I lifted my xj 6.5'' this last summer and recently it has started to make a pretty bad grinding/squealing noise whenever I accelerate, the sound gets mostly better when I let off the gas. My first thought is that its probably the slip yoke, The lift kit that I got came with a transfer case drop kit so I figured I could put off the SYE for a while. Does anybody know if this sounds typical for a slip yoke or if my problem lies elsewhere?? Ive had a hard time finding the culprit since it only makes the noise while moving

Place rear axle on stands with wheels off the ground and front tires chocked. Start engine, place in drive, trace sound.
What size TC drop are you using with a 6.5" lift?!?

I hadn't thought to do that thanks! And the kit came with a cross member that drops it maybe two to three inches

6.5" and no SYE?! That's probably the prob right there haha. U joints about to go from being stressed? Transmission mount/engine mounts? Look at the basics first.

that's crazy angles. A sye should be a requirement beyond 4" of lift

No lift over 4" that doesn't use an SYE amazing you would even try, goes against everything in print.

The lift is from iron rock off-road and the drop is more like 1.5-2" now that I look at it closer

I remember the girl I told this ------------------- was 12" also, easy to over estimate at times

No amount of drop spacer can be used for that size of lift, that causes a whole bunch of other problems. Install an SYE!

I plan on doing the sye as soon as I can but I'm in college now so money and time are pretty tight

I understand money being tight, but if that's the case, WAIT till you have everything you need.

Now, you have a lifted truck and driving it will likely cause even more damage, so you'll have to spend even more money you don't have to fix it.
