I grabbed a complete 2004 liberty axle for $100 with NON rusted backing plates.
With the liberty axle laying on the shop floor (with calipers still on,, I did some quick measurements and compared them to the 8.25 that is in my XJ,,
From what I can tell the caliper bolts will contact the XJ U bolt plate, or at best have about 1/16" clearance??

Anyone have a picture showing the clearance??

Never heard of that.

Chances are your lug studs will be too short though.

 

Yeah, I know this swap has been done a thousand times,, It is just going to be close, real close.

I'll grab new studs,, or salvage the ones off the Liberty axle.

 

That's what I did. Also used the caliper mounting bolts from the donor vehicle. You'll find out the swap is pretty straight forward.
