I did a ZJ rear disc conversion to my 2001 like in 2008! I used the stock cables with clamps and no issues. If my memory doesn't fail, the only thing I had to do for backing plates to fit my Chrysler 8.25 was to slightly enlarge the 4 holes on each of them. Afterwards it was all pretty easy.-

Are you running the wj steering. If not you might look into early dana 30knuckles. 89 older. Can run 4piston calipers and multiple sized rotors. 13.2" mustang rotors.

You just have to get rotors that have 5.5" mounting pattern to bolt to early dana 30 caliper brackets.

i have disc on my rear can't remember wich but if mounting caliper pattern is 5.5" or even 5.15 theres tons of brackets upgrade options..

Doesn't have to be done like everyone does it. But sometimes is the best.

Don't want to hijack this, but I would like to take the opportunity to ask if someone can guide me for what brand of front discs to buy for my 2001 XJ and which ones to stay away from. Also, I've read somewhere about cast or forged discs for the 2001, but cannot recall.-

Thanks in advance,

The best to get would be whatever you find at the dealer, unless they have now outsourced to some aftermarket vendor.
I find that aftermarket brakes on a car rust out long before they would have normally worn out, and the rust accelerates the wear. The OE equipment stuff lasts longer. It's not uncommon to replace the original brakes from a car at over 100,000 miles. The aftermarket rusts away and are toast after just a few years.

On my old XJ I had the Liberty conversion with no issue. This go around I bought the crown auto kit...both results were great. The crown kit got me convenience and not scavenging pick'n pull. I'd get a ZJ prop valve off ebay and pull the spring and piston and replace it from the get go. I tried removing just the O ring and the brakes, although better than stock weren't amazing. The prop valve seemed to really even the braking out.
