Hey guys so I have issues with my truck leaning to the right. I purchased this truck a few months ago. The owner said he had the suspension redone about a year ago, with bags in the back as per pictures (and new leaf springs). I have also measured the distance between the axels and the 'frame rails' (i know its a uni body but the closest there is to frame rails) and have worked out that it also has a 2.5 inch lift. I also measured that the left side is 0.6 inches higher than the right side both front and back (so the left is almost 3 inches lifted while the right only 2.5). I have also checked that all shocks do compress when pushing on the truck, however the suspension is quite stiff overall. The bags are NOT pumped up, I can squash them with my hands. Now I have a mechanical understanding of cars and can do most things myself, however this is the first time I am getting into 4wds and the aspect of lifting trucks.
Now my question really is why is it tilted like that? Is there a way to fix this without installing a completley new lift kit? What parts can cause this? (My ball joints are in need of replacing i think, everytime I turn my stearing left or right there is a certain point were it hangs up slightly and makes a banging sound from the right front. This hanging up is sound only, you cant actually feel it but it happens at the exact same place in the steering everytime even when stationary. But that should affect my height as far as i know?) I have attached some phtotos underneath of different parts. Thanks in advance!
The rear leaf springs don't look great. I think they are close to being shot and look well rusted. They might even have a bend in them. Rusted front coils aren't a good thing. Not sure what brand but coil springs usually have a left and right to account for added components on the driver side. First check that your axles haven't bent, rear shackles are in tact, spring perches aren't cracked or rusted and anything else that could be structurally altered. These XJs can have tweaks to the unibody if they were wheeled hard or in an accident, but not sure how to check that.
Trailertrash, I think you are right. I count seven leafs in the first picture of leaf springs.
That almost looks like a bastard pack, which, if leafs were taken from a variety of different springs, could give you different spring rates that would screw up the rear.
IMO, its time for a new set of springs in the rear, and a set of front coils might not be a bad idea. That suspension doesn't look like it was replaced about a year ago.
If you are going to do it, do it right and it will last quite awhile.
That suspension is more than a year old. I have never seen that much rust appear in only one year. I agree, I think you are in the market for a set of new springs front and rear and likely a set of shocks as well.

Even if they don't have different numbers of leaves the right leaf looks flat or nearly inverted while the left looks like it still has some arch to it. If the work was done a year ago they used salvage parts or parked the Jeep in a pit of salt. I'd just go ahead and rebuild the suspension all around with known good parts.
it deffenitly looks like the leaf springs are bad and if only a year old, the folks who posted above are right it's not a purchased lift it, but more of a budget junk yard lift.
