jeep starting problem

jeep starting problem
I have 1993 jeep xj I just bought it a new battery it turned on when I installed it and once I turned it off and try turning it back on the battery is automatically dead. I charge the battery and same thing keeps happening Don’t know what to do?

Redo the cable connections to the battery first.
When you turn the key to ON, instrument lights come on?
What do those lights do when you turn to START?
Do they dim or not?
Automatic trans? If so, move the lever from Park to Neutral and back again a few times and see what happens.
