Default Intense shutter

Hey all, I’ve got a 94 xj that’s been lifted. The lift is probably around a 5” or so I bought it this way, 33x12.5 tires. When trying to pull out/let the clutch out, it shutters intensely unless you give it a lot of gas. When going down the road, if in too high of a gear it’ll buck and run horribly. Can’t find any info on what exactly it could be anywhere. Thanks for any help.

Do you know the axle ratio?

You may have more than one issue you're dealing with.

How are the plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

Have you checked the fluid levels in the trans, transfer case and diffs since you got it?

If the shudder is coming from engaging and disengaging the clutch, it's likely you're throw-out bearing and/or input shaft on the transmission. You could also have a worn-out driveshaft u-joint that's shuddering under load. Or, you still have a slip yoke and the lift is causing driveline vibrations under load.

But yeah, what gear ratio do you have? If it's stock, then 3.07s and 33s is rough, buddy. You gotta down shift man - don't just lay into it in fifth when you really need to be in third.

Sounds like your drivetrain needs attention. Got picks of the rig?

Stock manual trans with the 4.0 should be 3.55s for the gearing I believe. Cap rotor and wires plugs all look not too old, but probably gonna do a tune up and replace anyways.

im thinking of doing a regear on it. The u joints look solid. Its set for a number of years. My old truck also used to shutter bad before we put a clutch in it. So I’m also thinking the clutch is toast.

Did it just start doing this ? How is the tune up ? plugs , wires cap , rotor and coil , does it feel like it could be a misfire ?
