Intake ? Cowl snorkel/ snorkel
Ok, so im a nube, if this is super dumb i apologize... but i have been reading about how much everyone hates snorkels (i think they are cool), and i was reading about the cowl style intake mod, which alot of people seemed to also complain about...
It made sense to me that the main place that will always be cool and dry is in the cab... i know a longer intake tube is bad for power, but surely a straight shot (or as straight a shot as possible) straight into the cab would be the same, if not less restrictive then stock, and it is only a couple inches further than the cowl right?
Anyways, i didnt see anything about a cone style cold air intake ran right into the cab (through the glove box area maybe?) So i wanted to see if its been done or is a bad idea.

Exterior snorkels are more for protection against elements than performance, the downside to the cowl induction is that the are loud. Pop your hood, remove your air box tube from the throttle body, start the engine and open the throttle by hand, listen to the flow of air into the intake. Now put that sound in your cab. The cost is about the same, go short tube or for $30 you can get a high flow OEM replacement filter from Spectre.

For now i may just get a new nice filter for the oem setup, but i think a short tube or "short ram" intake wouldnt do me any good for power or water. I have no interior lining, so my ride gets pretty loud as it is. I may consider doing this in the future if i get to a point where i am really worried about hydrolock. Thanks for the input.
Btw, has anybody done this? I would love to see pics if they are out there. :-)

I made myself a spectre set-up. I am stoked. It performs and I simply bought the biggest effin filter I could find. The only time I am unhappy is when it's over 90 degrees out and I am on the highway for 4-10 hours. I swear it gets heat soak and my mileage and power suffers accordingly. Snorkels are ok, but my vehicle will never be submerged and it seems like overkill for my purposes. I will probably do a cowl induction setup eventually. Now that it's winter, I won't even consider it until next June. Road noise is pretty normal with the jeep lifted on knobby tires. I wouldn't worry about the sound from the cowl.. That's why I have a stereo. Plus, as time goes on and my hearing gets worse, hell - I probably won't be able to hear any of it.

That's what I'm running, so far I love it, and as most have stated there is certainly some noise associated with it, I wasn't sure about it at first but after getting used to it I enjoy it lol...its very noticeable though at a cold startup and above 2200 rpm.
