I have not used one on a 4.0l but in my past experience with them in general they are pretty useless on a gas engine unless you have substantial modifications already done. the little bit of timing and injector duration will do something, but in my opinion not enough to justify the price of them.
if you do buy one, please let us know if it was worth it, and I am wrong.

programmers dont get much rope on jeep forums, there havent been any that performed, at least not well enough to be worth near their price

the reason why programers dont work on jeeps (mainly the cherokee and TJ and WJ with the 4.0l) is because from the factory they are basically max tuned there is a VERY small percentage gain that you can get from the stock PCM

Yeah I mostly know that you wont see much of a power gain on a na gas motor with small bolt ons I just didn't know if the change of Timing and the fuel curve actually give you a few more miles a gallon

it may but its a double edge sword. with the timing increase you will have to use premium gas so it would even out, if your lucky with fuel prices

Do you mind recommending some useful things? I just bought an XJ today and I've been searching for the kinds of parts I upgraded on my Ranger, not really sure what kinds of things I can do to it as far as performance gains yet. I am pretty new but bought the thing so I could learn. Anything you could tell me would be appreciated. (I was almost ready to order one of those programmers...)
