How much noise from Powertrax Lock Right in front (or other auto lockers) in 2WD
I just scored some axles geared in 3.55 for very cheap. I have a manual trans 97 XJ, with the 3.07s. I am going to put in aussie, or automatic/lunchbox style lockers in them. I know I want the Powertrax no slip for the rear, because I am willing to pay the premium for a quiet ride, this is my daily driver. My question is, does anyone know if I need to pay the premium for the "no slip" in the front. There seems to be some debate as to whether these aussie/lunchbox lockers are noisy in the front axle when it is not driven. It seems to me they would still be noisy, but I have no experience with them.
Thanks for the help!

To be honest, It's hard to tell. I think maybe I can hear the back clicking a little in a turn. Both are pretty quiet once they get worn in abit. When new, the front was abit loud.

okay, thanks for the help. I may well go with the spartans on both axels then. Too bad you have to just buy all this stuff and hope for the best. I've been looking a lot of tires too, and its the same thing, eventually, you just have to pull the trigger, really having no idea if you'll like them. Its not like shoes wear you can at least try them on.

I just installed Spartans front and rear. Don't even know they're there, until turning into a tight radius, like in a crowded parking lot. I also used a heavier weight gear oil (80-140) to help minimize any noise.

Never heard a peep from mine except for the occasional 'unloading' pop it would do when taking a sharp, slow left turn (like at a drive-thru). Some people claim that using thicker weight oil or adding more oil to the diff (aftermarket cover with a higher fill hole) eliminated the popping.

I ran this gear lube weight in my Detroit Lockers and I don't hear them when I turn on the rear and when needed on the front I'm usually to busy to notice any noise.

I put a power trax no slip in the rear and spartan in the front. I hardly know the power trax is there. It's very quiet. In two wheel drive the spartan makes lots of noise. In four wheel drive when it locks I don't notice it. I sometimes wish I put the power trax in the front too but I don't daily drive it very much so I'll probably leave it in there. The main thing is they both work great, just one is noisy.
