Got a guy who wants to trade my mustang for his jeep. He is trailering to me cause it has death wobble. He said it needs a trac bar which I've never done before but from the videos Ive seen it looks like a pretty straightforward job long as you have a ratchet set.
Only issue is it has a 6.5 in lch rough country lift on 35s. How much harder is it gonna be to replace? He already send me to link to the website for the part which is only about $140. I can probably have it put on by a shop but if it's easy I'll do it myself
What are the asking value(s) on your mustang and his jeep and also what's your expectations for the jeep?
Also any other pictures of the jeeps suspension would be helpful
Track bar is a very simple job to replace. Really just nuts and bolts. However if there are other things that become obvious that are worn out, like tierods, suspension bushings then things will add up quickly.
Now days if my expectations for a jeep are related to being a DD then I sure as heck won't bother with buying someone's lifted beater. They seem to bring more problems than the work is worth. Especially if jeeps are new to you and lifted suspension is foregin then consider something stock and original. Too many kids out there go for the cheapest of everything available to achieve an experience and once the vehicle falls apart they give it up and move on.

I was hoping to get 4k but realistically I'd probably be lucky to get 3k. I was hoping for 4k cause there is custom stuff that I did to it. 320 amp alternator, AGM battery with 0 gauge upgrade, custom speakers, tune up, etc and besides that the best thing about it is its gorgeous because the body is almost perfect except some surface rust on the unibody underneath. But it's a bone stock V6 other than that with 188k so it's not fast. It gets good mileage but I live maybe 2 miles away from work and other than that I do t drive much. Plus it need an AC Clutch, driver side window regulator, one of the tires is plugged, has no center caps on 3 wheels, and it's overdue for an oil change. Not a bad car but any means. The guy wants a daily and it's definitely daily ready after an oil change and it gets good gas mileage.
As for the jeep honestly don't know a whole lot about it I'm gonna talk with him tomorrow some more and gets pics of the unibody. It's a 96 (score) with 160k original miles while is already a bonus and is listed for $3600. He said the only things wrong with it are the Trac bar bushings so it has death wobble and it needs headlights which he has. He used wheeling clearly but everything from the pics I've seen have been pretty solid. Has dents in the body but nothing crazy and not that I care anyways. Has brand new 35s which is probably where a good chunk of the price is
Expectations aren't that high but as long as the engine and trans don't have any big issues and the unibody is good then I'll be happy. I plan on selling the winch as soon as I get it. Gonna use the tires until they get decently low but not like gone and then sell them and get smaller ones. Not stock but 35s are too big for me. And then probably get rid of the lift and sell it too and replace it with quality road road ready suspension and steering parts.
I'm not looking for a turn key and daily. I have truck that I also love driving. Me and my girlfriend are looking for a project for the long haul and I'm willing to put a reasonable amount of work into it
The body on top looks pretty solid for an Ohio XJ. It even looks like he still has rockers too. And if underneath looks as good and the engine and trans are good then I will be happy
If his rig ONLY needs a 150 dollar track bar that takes an hour to put in to be driveable, why doesn't he do it himself and keep it. That jeep seems like a giant can of worms for what looks to be a really nice mustang
Don't oversimplify a track bar install, especially on a Jeep where the owner could have taken shortcuts.
Yes, it is true the track bar is easy to replace, but you have to make sure you match the track bar with the lift. A 6.5 inch lift REQUIRES an adjustable track bar. When you go to buy a track bar, make sure your lift height is somewhere in the range that the adjustable track bar can accommodate. Also, make sure to get a double shear track bar bracket to go with it. An improperly installed track bar can lead to death wobble.
If his rig ONLY needs a 150 dollar track bar that takes an hour to put in to be driveable, why doesn't he do it himself and keep it. That jeep seems like a giant can of worms for what looks to be a really nice mustang

I can tell from a couple of the pictures you shared already that it's running that "6.5" lift on short arms which is already a problem in itself if its actually that tall. Id be very curious what makes up the rear of the lift and also if the jeep has an SYE done already or not?
For as clean as your mustang looks, why not put a little time and a couple bucks into it and sell it for a better prce then have yourself some $$ to be open minded about a stock jeep that won't potentially need a number of aftermarket suspension components replaced from the start?
Your definitely waging the value of a good looking DD car for someone else's jeep handiwork and I can tell you from all my years playing with these, that's not something I would wager on at all.
Regardless though, if you go check it out and don't make the decision right then and there, snap a few pictures of the suspension and maybe we can make sense of anything that looks suspicious or questionable.

Like I said I don't know too much else about it I haven't talked to him much. And I don't plan on doing any wheeling and plan on taking a off all the off-road stuff to sell which I can put back into the jeep. I never drive my mustang. In the past 6 months I have maybe out 200 miles on it and I don't care to have it anymore.
I'm going to talk to him today for more pics and info. And again this will not be my daily. I already have one. And all the jeeps within 75 miles for me are 200 plus miles, no floor pans and no titles. So as long as the engine and trans are fine and there is no rust holes and the unibody is good, then I will take it.

Not sure,I will have to ask him. From what it seems he has it set up for wheeling and doesn't feel like taking it all off and is selling it to buy a daily. I'm trying to buy a project
You're trading a good, running mustang for something that obviously isn't driven regularly ??.The LED bar on the front hood blocking the view probably isn't street legal in any state... So you don't need a dependable ride ?? This doesn't seem to be it IMO..I'm betting it's like others are suggesting there's probably more than just a track bar or he'd have it on for a quick sell/trade...

I've said a few times I already have a truck that I daily and I NEVER drive the mustang. But after learning he had to repair the floor pan I think I will pass. I don't trust that he didn't do a good job putting it in and I don't want the unibody falling apart underneath my feet.
Also that light bar is tiny compared to some of the hood ornaments on the vehicles around here. For example there is a guy with an OBS f150 some sort of bull rack on his roof for an ornament
