How do i fix my 4X4 vacuum problem?
I Have a 1990 xj that has the vacuum actuated 4 wheel drive and every time I go wheelin it pulls off the axle and my light goes out. Is there a cheap fix for this annoying problem any help is appreciated. Thanx

Engine: 4.0L upgraded charging system & blue top, flowmaster 44, hi flow cat and two core rad.
There's a zip tie on mine to keep it on there, I have a 4x4posi lok to fix it permanently but haven't installed it yet. You could replace the axle shaft with a one piece but there would be no more disconnect in the front axle (like newer model xjs).

gear clamp around the axle shaft against the sleeve or a bolt through the housing to hold the fork in place.
or the 200 dollar posi cable with upgraded fork for extra strength.

If you take the cover off there is a clip inside, remove the clip and slide the fork over, then reinstall the clip. Your axle is now permanently locked like the newer XJs. Or you could just take my approach and swap out the entire front axle assembly

I think I'll try the ol' zip tie to keep the vacuum lines on there till I can get some money saved up for the conversion. Where would I find the conversion kit?

Sounds like the hose is too short, maybe due to a lift. You could try lengthing the vacuum hose and like stated a clamp wouldn't hurt.
