Default HID conversion

I got the head light conversion so I only have to put in the H4 bulb instead of the whole unit. Could I put in HIDs in replacement of regular bulbs just like any other car or truck?

no you cannot. You need to have projector headlights. an H4 housing is different and you will blind drivers and lose the purpose of having HID lights as you will not have the proper light pattern.

Plus H4 will be plenty of light. first start by upgrading your wiring (they make plug and play kits)

The XJ has a sealed beam headlight; unless you want to drill a hole in the back, you would need to buy a new housing. If you were to install a H4 Xenon bulb (HID) then i would suggest replacing the housing with a projection lens housing. Preferably diamond cut. You could simply buy a non projector lens, although I am pretty sure that is illegal in every state as you would be shining the bright xenon into oncoming traffic. Also, if you want to pass inspection, you may want to think about getting bi-xenon HIDs. This will allow you to have both low and high beams, as the XJs use the same bulbs for both. Finally, I suggest getting a kit, otherwise without the ballasts you'll be blowing them expensive bulbs out the door.

I just installed a hi/low hid kit in my xj from DDM tuning, and they work great except now the only way to turn the headlights off is to turn the key off after pushing in the headlight switch. Anyone else had this problem?

Hmm mine if you shut the key off then the headlights they will stay on for 60 seconds (?) maybe its longer or shorter but it is a design feature not a problem....If leave them on after the key is off and then you toggle the key on to off again do they shut off right away? (That is how they should work.)
