Default Help me with a bumper build

I'm in a welding class and have some free time. I want to make a back bumper for my 97 Jeep cherokee. I have a piece of 4'' square tubing that I can use and what ever else I need. Can someone please show me a write up or something Thanks

do this, its 3x4 though so its kinda similar. rest is 2x2 and 1/4in plate. 3/16th elsewhere.

Only follow this or any bumper with tie in brackets. No one should ever use the factory mounts as a hitch or recovery point, it'll rip right out.

That looks good but I wouldn't use the receiver to tow a trailer & definitely NOT for recovery. The 8 bolt are a weak spot. Now, if you used some tie in brackets that bolt to where you would bolt a hitch to then it would be functional.
Good luck to you.

Cut holes into the unirails and slide some 2x4 tubing in there. Weld some nuts and bolt from underneath with existing holes. Much stronger, Id never ever use the factory mounting only.

I actually like this idea.. are there holes already in the bottom of the frame there or will I have to do some cutting? I have pulled with my bumper and been pulled on, it's never been ripped off and i've gotten pulled alot . Thanks for the tips though guys. OP i could give you dimensions for that if you want to model your off mine.

The holes are there already, I'm sure you can do some light pulling on the stock location, Id still never risk it though. Wouldn't be the best to have it break someones windshield or even hurt someone. Do it right once and be done with it.

Here are a couple of pics showing the mounting bolts to use. These bolt holes are also used to mount the gas tank skid plate.

You need to use the factory nut strips where the factory Class III receiver hitch bolts to, that is where all the aftermarket bumper mfg bolt there's and have a receiver in the bumper and D-Ring mounts. They do use the factory bumper mounts also
