help identifying axles
I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4 door Sport. I want to know what axles (might be dana 30 and 8.25)but cant figure it out. They have 3.55 gears. Ill upload pics of them when I get home.

All xj/mj/yj/zj/tj had a d30 up front
Most people would agree that all i6 automatics came with 3.55 gears.
V6 cherokees may have been different

Yes. The 85-86 AMC Cherokee Waggys with the Chevrolet 2.8 V-6 had 3.31 gearing (I have these) When Chrysler aquired AMC they offered a 3.73 gearing option. Other than these two options the basic gearing is 3.55 for automatics and 3.07 for standard transmissions.

now do you really think he can be able to tell the difference between the d35 and the 8.25 just by referring to this pic? i bet you couldn't either... if you've never seen them before.
easiest way to tell is the 8.25 has a flat bottom on the axle. the two diff covers look very similar. so unless you know what to look for, you will be confused.

Please post photos of the V6 Cherokees, as I have never seen any. It is possible since I have little experience with them. Just been around Jeeps for about 50 years.
