Help with an axle swap.
So, I just finished skimming over all the threads in the modified section and I keep seeing the same information on axle swaps. The information being "I scored a great deal on (insert your selected axle)". I am just trying to find out what donor vehicles can I use the rear axle from that are the right width. I know I will have to get the mounts welded on/moved but can anybody help me? Also, if you do know the make of the donor vehicle, what year is the vehicle.? Thank you for any assistance that you give. Btw, I am looking for a 8.8 to a Dana 44 swap...

29 spine 8.25 is as good as a D44 IMO easier/cheaper to get spare shafts. Easier to find one too. I have ran 35s locked on the 29spline with no problems.
cherokee model jeeps is where you get them( you live on kitsap side so your best bet is the wrecking yard in shelton. they charge up the butt. If you have the time pull a part or lake stevens auto wrecking is your best bet.) you won't have to weld anything just straight swap. for the 8.8 you have to do some fab work.

8.8 axles are from a ford explorer yeard 95-01 have disc brakes. they are actually a bit narrower than stock but you can fix that with the super 88 kit

then you get perfect pinion angle, ruffstuff antiwrap leaf perches, raised shock tabs. dont forget to weld the tubes to the housing. make a truss for added peace of mind. then you're ready for a full case locker and gears. disadvantage to the 8.8 is it's EXPENSIVE
D44 swaps right in and it's ready to go. if you can find one for cheap its quick and easy and aftermarket parts are aplentiful

aftermarket goodies. you don't need all of them though. you can swap in a factory 4.10/limited slip 8.8 for $155 before brakes. and should be able to find plenty of 8.8's for dirt cheap at a junk yard unlike the coveted xj D44. just depends on what you're going for

I'm planning on doing a 8.8 swap with the LSD and 4.10's, found one at my local wrecker. $250, which for north of the boarder is a decent price. We pay more for less up here.
