I've never even understood why Renix systems are still mandated to use an EGR system. Many people have found removing the setup or testing with a defective unit actually IMPROVED emissions. Plus, look at the HO couterparts... No EGR, better Emissions.

Plus, just saying, the APN header doesn't have the little fitting for the EGR tube.

What to do, what to do....

It doesn't even have an O2 fitting so I can't try it with an open header

While the intake is off for the header install, put this reflective heat barrier on the bottom side of the intake.

You could always weld one in. They sale 02 bungs at our local parts store. I've often wondered myself if having the 02 sensor in the collector of the header would be beneficial, pointless, or detrimental.

Either way I don't know how to weld 321 stainless. I'll put it on the downpipe.

open header on an xj would most likely just rob you of your bottom end torque... they need the back pressure...

Why not do a 91-95 HO head conversion and a 99 intake while you're at it? letting it push more air out without taking more in = the same air going out. Eliminate the bottle neck.

I have APN header with 99+ intake and they dont play nice at first. #6 exhaust runner needs some discipline to work.

That wasn't hard at all, dremel, and a socket and hammer.

Converting from a renix throttle body to HO throttle body isn't that hard either... they even make adaptors for it... Use the google young padewan

I'm installing this same set up here shortly with the apn header and 99+ intake. What do you mean by discipline? I have a 96

I don't have the funding for that. I'm 18 and make $8 an hour and it's WAY too big of a project right now.

means smack it around a bit and show it whos boss........well actually more like rework it and shave some metal off the runners of the intake and exhaust to give em clearance.......generally speaking if its cheap its not built to the highest standards and you will have to get creative during the install, for example my pacesetter for my renix, was cheap compared to bigger brands but i had to do a bit of cutting and welding to make it fit, does that make it a piece of crap? not in my opinion, mind you i have grinders torches and welders so im able to do the work myself and even after reworking it im still way under what i would have spent on say a bigger brand....if they made one for a renix.

You will have to file the intake manifold a bit to get it to seat near #6 exhaust pipe at the header flange. No big deal. Just be prepared for it. I've done 2 of these conversions. Exhaust ports are fine and be sure to use a Renix style intake/exhaust gasket. Put the O2 sensor bung in the headpipe. The wires are plenty long enough. FWIW, have a new headpipe made without the "crush" in it for added performance.
