Head, intake, throttle body, header for 87 XJ
I am looking for more grunt from the old girl and hopefully better mileage. Was thinking about a top end swap. What head, throttle body, intake would you recommend? Also am looking at multiple brands of headers or possibly building my own. Header MUST be ceramic coated for heat issues. Lets hear your take on it!

Your head is fine for grunt.
Is your exhaust manifold cracked? If not, just have a new headpipe made that is in two 45* angles without the factory "crush".
Don't count on any significant increase in mileage no matter what.
Get some 4 hole injectors to replace your notorious fuel leaking, fire starting ones.
And a 60mm throttle body from www.strokedjeep.com

The exhaust manifold is cracked, and I want the extra power/torque that is gained with a header. That being said, I have read somewhere that the H.O. Head would fit, along with the intake. I can't find where I read it.

You can put an HO header on your REnix Jeep. Bolts right up. You have to relocate your O2 sensor to the headpipe. That's easy and the wires are long enough. You can have a bung welded on to the HO header for the EGR bung also.

Yes. If you use the intake exhaust gasket for the HO. The ports are off slightly, but no worse than most Detroit iron I've seen over the years.
There's no gain using the HO manifold on your Renix and the HO's throttle position sensor won't work with Renix.

Oh ok, I thought the HO intake was supposed to breathe better. Thanks for the info.

It works opposite of a Renix, just like theh "trans" side of a Renix TPS. Besides, it mounts differently.
$180 kit from Hesco and it will work.
Me, I'll get a 60mm throttle body from www.strokedjeep.com. for $90 exchange. It's 2mms bigger than the HO throttle body and bolts right on using existing TPS.

As Pete said the crush in the mid pipe near the front drive shaft is the biggest bottle neck.
Getting rid of that and bumping that (and the rest of the exhaust from there back) tube diameter up to 2.5" will be your best bet for exhaust.
He speaks the truth, lol.

I'd say there is a substantial difference in design between a factory renix manifold and an aftermarket header...one is a manifold....one is a header.
