I am also interested in doing this. Having driveline vibes is getting really old, really fast. Since we are on the subject, I'm kinda going to hijack the thread, so I pre apologize! Haha It's relevant I promise!
I have an 89, np231 with an AX15, Cry. 8.25, 2 degree shims, and about 4.5-5ish inches of lift.
On IRO's website it says the front driveshaft may not work on pre 89 models? What's different in those models that the stock front driveshaft may not work?

dont want to see your well-built rig go to waste on cheaper parts
full sye and xj front driveshaft should total to like only $260+tax/ship anyway

Only reason to do a hack n tap would be for an np242 transfer case. Np231 gets the full HD sye kit, no buts about it.

I did not pull the transfer case. It was super easy to do still in my rig. Probly took less than 2 hrs start to finish. Take your time running the tap in and use lots of cutting oil and it's a breeze. From what I've read there pretty durable as well. Definetly not like a full hd sye but would probly be fine for most people.

Running 33's with 5 in. of lift in an '00 with a D35 and just put in a hack and tap using a drive shaft from another automatic, which I got for $30. I got my HnT from dirt bound, referencing a write up from go-jeep (links below). It's relatively easy and slightly time consuming, just make sure you drill as center and straight as possible and you should be good to go. I did a lot of reading up and found very few people who managed to break one, so if you don't do any extreme wheeling you should be fine. Good luck!
