Default Hack N Tap?

ive been thinking about doing a hack n tap sye on my 95xj(4.5rc, 31's soon to be 33's. but i have a few questions. about how much doe it cost to completely do the hack n tap? how strong is it? ive heard that you can just use a stock xj front drive shaft with it, would that still be the case if i bought a real sye?

I dont know if you can use an XF shaft, but an XJ shaft should do the trick.

They are pretty strong, not many have been able to break one.

The amount of money it takes will depend on who you buy it from, and what partsyou get with the kit.

To be honest, though, some light searching on here or even google would answer all your questions. This has been coveres many times.

With his 95 he may have to get the seal flange.

Which is another $80.

Call IRO. (Iron rock offroad) They will tell you exactly what you need. The seal flange I beleive is for certain transfer cases. They sell it for $39. I think that is the flange you will need but they will know for sure.

I am also interested in doing this. Having driveline vibes is getting really old, really fast. Since we are on the subject, I'm kinda going to hijack the thread, so I pre apologize! Haha It's relevant I promise!

I have an 89, np231 with an AX15, Cry. 8.25, 2 degree shims, and about 4.5-5ish inches of lift.

On IRO's website it says the front driveshaft may not work on pre 89 models? What's different in those models that the stock front driveshaft may not work?

I also installed the IRO hack n tap about 2 weeks ago. It was super easy. Probly the easiest part of my whole lift. Good sharp drill bits, cutting oil and it drills out like butter. I also have the c8.25 but mines a 96. I just measured multiple times before I cut the output shaft. Highly recommend this kit.

Did you pull the transfer case, or did you leave it in the jeep?

Assuming you have 231, you can either do a Hack n Tap or an SYE.
But you would have to have a CV Driveshaft, either custom or a front DS from an XJ or ZJ depending on your lift height.

Find a DS from a JY might be a cheaper option unless you have to change the u-joints and those are running around $18/ea (x3 per shaft)....that could add up to around $100 for a rebuilt JY DS.
I went with SYE + DS package from Adamsdriveshaft.....great customer service if i may say.

Here is a thread with video on Hack n Tap and SYE.

Here is a comparison on my custom DS and stock XJ front DS.

Installation was a breeze for a newbie like me.

GL with the search.

Im on a pretty tight budget, so im probably gonna end up going with the hack n tap kit from IRO with the refurbished drive shaft, its more in my price range 200-250

Make sure the JY DS has good u-joints....that will save you a few penny.
