So sadly at my job we have people who try to open doors in a sneaky way and break into them. Also some who attempt to smash and grab cars and its happened 3 times with my jeep so far where someone tried to smash my window out and jimmy the lock open to where the security comes running and they take off. Whats a good alarm system with a proximity sensor. I seen an alarm where it chirped and said back off when i got near then the alarm went off when i got closer

Almost all name-brand aftermarket alarm systems are made by Directed Electronics, Inc, aka DEI.
Python, Viper, Avital, Clifford----all are DEI brands.

The voice module and proximity sensors are both add-ons for virtually any DEI alarm. The voice module just hooks up to the siren output and the proximity sensor wires up to an unused "zone" input. They also have tilt sensors to detect if someone is trying to tow your car away and glass break sensors for thieves that use automatic center punches to break windows without setting off the standard shock sensor that comes with almost every alarm.

I run an Avital 5303L which is probably 10 years old as far as technology goes. The current model is the 5305L The reason I have that is because the previous owner installed the 3100LX basic alarm and the pinouts were the same. I actually have upgraded the alarm twice, first from the 3100Xl to the 4303 (I think) which added remote start, and then to the 5303L which added 2-way capabilities.

Fun fact: All I had to do to upgrade from the one-way to the 2-way was change the brain and antenna. All the wiring was exactly the same. I may not have even had to change the brain, honestly.

So, depending on how scared you are of wiring, you could go with the $30 alarm/keyless only and add the $30 proximity sensor and the $30 voice module (plus the $10 door lock relay kit, which is required for the XJ) and have a super-fancy alarm system for ~$100, or go another $100 and get remote start and pager capabilities.

Little late and don't really have a good answer, just a story. Went to VIP to have them put in an alternator because i didn't feel like messing with it and they were close by. Left my car there at 8am and went home to sleep, told them i needed it done by 5pm. So i pull in at just after 5 and the guy is just pulling it into the bay. Goes to reconnect my battery after the install, and my alarm is going off, can probably hear it a half mile away echoing from that bay. Oh, and the battery on my keychain is dead. I walk into the bay, yelling as loud as i can, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, so we can talk, guy is a ****ing moron. I go into O'Rileys next door and buy a new battery, get it all paid for and the guy tells me, if that thing was going off in my neighborhood i would probably start shooting at it until it stopped. This, exactly this
I was laughing so ****ing hard when I heard it. I have no idea what model it is, but it's pretty useless, doesn't even go off when a door opens, only once it's closed.

Just went through a similar ordeal with a 2013 Ford Exploder. Anyone ever try to just change the battery in one of these yet? What a purposely engineered mess with the security alarm system. lol
