Hell even built goes south most times. Between me and 3 of my buddies, we've killed around 10-15 4l60s. My 05 Z71 has a pretty bad *** one and it's been tuned at an early mileage to keep it from ***** shifting/destroying itself but you can't find low mileage F bodies that ***** shift even worse. It's usually too late by the time you get your hands on it. Locally nobody can build a 60 and have it last long. One of my buddies lucked out and found a 65 out of a MAX package Silvy and has had it work for him for about a year now. Performabuilt and Ace are some companies that build some bullet proof tannys but they cost some serious $$$$$$$. I'll probably break down and do the AX15 swap but I'd rather have and auto. I drive 60 miles per day so non overdrive trannys aren't even something I would consider. I'll figure something out but I can promise this thing won't have an electronic 700R4 pile of crap in it when it's all said and done. I might investigate that 6 speed they put in Cummins trucks though I can't remember the name of it at the moment

I've got 235,000 miles on my 4L60E and still tow a camper. She may go out tommorow but she has held up to a lot of towing.

Well good for you. I have a buddy that owns a race shop and has literally an entire shop bay full of trannys and engines. Mostly 4l60Es and Ford mod motors. I'm still not putting one in my Jeep even though I will have the one from my truck available when I put the built 4l65 in it. I'll probably bust it up with a sledge hammer and post the video up on youtube

Wow forget everything you've read so far. Just found a 2wd MJ 5 speed with bad engine and no wheels. I'll just use the LS1 and 6 speed with this one and see about making it 4wd later on. This thing should be fun

I say use a TH350 behind it (TH350 has a steeper first gear) with an adapter for a 231 case. We are currently doing this in my buddies 87 XJ.

Actually 11. I found a gutted one that had been rolled in the river and bought it for the lift kit and axles. I don't really claim that one

Refer to the WILL NOT CONSIDER NON OD TRANSMISSIONS post above. This thing is a 5 speed so I'll stick my Camaro's 6 speed in it cuz it's 2 wheel drive

Thanks I'll check it out. I think I might just make a tailhousing for the T56 if the price is too high

I'm gunna bring this back from the dead

4l60s SUCK. I've been fooling with LS based cars and trucks since 1999.
a 4l80 with the little transgo shift kit upgrade WILL hold more power than a 4l60e. There are some 4l60s that are holding in 1000rwhp applications but why spend $5,000 on a 4l60e???????????
