Default Front Drive Shaft Help

I have a ton of play in the slip joint of my front driveshaft. I removed it and it cleared up all my vibes so I know its coming from the shaft. Also, U joints are good and I can visibly see/hear play in the slip joint.

How do you fix this? Is there a part to replace or should I just get a new drive shaft from the Junk yard?

Also, if taking junk yard route, does it have to be a XJ shaft or will others work off of say an MJ or ZJ? I have a 2000 4x4 with Auto trans and 4.0.

Thanks in advance.

Use any yr. XJ shaft. Fronts are all the same. It just might be shot from no grease or a bad hit etc. If you are lifted more than say 4.5, you could use 93-98 ZJ...they are a little longer...though they are also a little bit thinner.

Indefinitely. It won't negatively effect anything...unless you get stuck and regret not having 4x4 haha

Its the low pinion I believe. I think they went back to low pinion in 2000-2001 for some reason.

I was hoping to avoid the cost of another driveshaft. No way to fix it?

Wow thanks for this info, that potential for an expensive mistake!
