front axle help
hello all i have a 96 cherokee with the dana 30, surprised? anyways i need new ring gears and such, i found an axle out of a 95 YJ with the same gears, could i swap over the carrier and ring and pinion over to my dana 30? also the guy claims it has a limited slip carrier, ive never heard of this so is this an option with the YJs? and would it work in my xj dana 30? any help is appreciated

What gears are you needing? I'm assuming they aren't stock... If they were I'd suggest you get an entire axle assembly from a pull a part for 90 bucks and slap it in your Jeep...
As long as they're both High Pinion or Both Low pinion they are interchangable. You can't run high pinion gears in a low pinion axle. They're cut differently.
If you do end up getting them then you'll have to have someone set them up. You can't just bolt them in there. They won't last one ride to walmart if you don't set them up right. You had better find someone really good to set them up as setting up used gearscan be a pain!
And no. YJ Dana 30s did not come with limited slips. He may have installed some sort of locker or LSD.

yea they are both high pinion dana 30s, same gears, stock 3.55s. the limited slip thing threw me off and i wasnt sure if they were interchangable, i figured seeing as they are both dana 30s they would be.

They are. But like I said. Since they are both stock gearing I promise you'll come out cheaper and MUCH easier to just grab a whole new axle assembly from a junk yard.
You can get a complete axle assembly for 99 bucks at a Pull a Part.
If you used his gears:
Initial cost of gears. $2? I wouldn't pay much more...
Labor for gear install -$150~
Master install kit - $75~
