Fox makes good shocks, and the last time I checked with them, they were fully rebuildable and could get revalved.

Whether they're right for your XJ depends on a lot of factors, firstly, whether they fit, then a multitude of factors that have been covered in many books by engineers with PhD's and experience with automakers and high levels of automotive racing. I don't expect you to read those books and master the contents within them, but the least you could do is call Fox and ask them. Let them earn your money.
