Default Ford 9", Ford 8.8, Dana 44, or Toyota 8.4 axle

Discuss, which would you run in the rear of DD, planning for 37" Humvee tires

I know the d44 would require some work to handle that so it's already low on the list

the Yota axle with it's 30 spline axles and pinion should be able to rock it something fiece, andit has better ground clearence than a D35

I don't know if a 30 spline 8.8 would handle 37s

and the 9" well I know it does not take much to make them awesome, but ground clearence is an issue, can't beat it for an easy to setup rear end

so help me sort this out so my search can begin

i wouldnt run 30 spline shafts with 37s. get at least 33, i'd want 35 spline for ultimate piece of mind. my buddy blew a 31 spline on the street doing a holeshot with 35s in a well trussed 9.

but with what shafts?

the cherokee 44 isn't the best idea like you said, needs a lot of work to be competent with 37s. i'd want a fully built yota 8, but i still wouldnt trust 37s on it. the XJ with those tires is way too heavy for it. 33 spline shafts for the 9, minimum. 37s on military tires are HEAVY. like 100+ lbs for a single wheel/tire combo. you're into 60 territory IMHO.

the 8.8s are 31 spline stock and there are ultimate and super 88 kits that beef them up pretty good

ill be runing the 31 spline on my daily with 35s and when that fails upgrade the 9" is easy to build.
and the 14" bolt wont be phased by 37s

the super 8.8 kits make the 8.8 a nasty good rear. i wouldnt hesitate to run 37s-38s on one built up nice.

1: those tires are junk

2: consider a 14b or 60?

a shaved 14 bolt with discs isn't too much of a boat anchor and will hold up just fine and dandy.

60's have a huge aftermarket, tons of used parts out there and are strong in stock form and can be built to nearly indestructible.

X1000 on the tires. They weigh a ton, have massive sidewalls that won't flex with low single digit psis and the tread pattern sucks. I had 3 sets that came with some H1s I recentered and put rings on and ended up giving them away because no one would buy them.
