Default ford 8.8 question

I was looking at car-part for 8.8s and noticed that it says there's a difference between the v6 and v8s. Is this true or were all explorers from 95-01 8.8s

Not all were 8.8" some had the 8" rear. They look almost identical except the 8" is s little more rounded. So be sure to check the tag on the diff (if still intact). The 8" was mainly used on lower base models of Explorers and some Rangers as well http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...Xie-4bQ4OGuxcg

The v8 ones are more likely to have a lsd but being used its probably shot. The 8 inch rear end died in 78 with the mustang 2/ pinto. The 8 inch looks dead like a 9 inch but is smaller. The ranger got a 7.5 or 8.8 depending engine and 2wd or 4x4.
