I'm not exactly sure what you're asking.....
Do you have workng AC? If so, the fan should come on with the AC OR whenever the temperature exceeds 218*. There is a writeup here on how to wire the fan so that the above works and you can have a switch for over ride. IIRC, it requires adding a diode to prevent backfeeding.
If you're fan is currently wired directly through the switch without a relay, is the switch rated for enough current draw? If not, add a relay and just use the switch to contol the relay, otherwise, the switch may overheat and melt.

the fan as it is now is wired into the dash into a illuminated rocker switch. it will only come on when the switch is turned on. i am not real crazy about this but i have found it it not that uncommon. my friend that owns the shop where the lift was installed says his SIL drives a mail jeep like mine and they somehow wired the fan into the ignition switch. when the key is turned on the fan comes on. so basically if they car is on and running the fan is running as well

So do you want yours thermostatically controlled (like originally installed IF you have AC), ON automatically with the ignition, or have the option of turning it on/off when you want?

just did this on my 97. bout a round toggle swith, some new wires, and fused it. so now i can control the fan when i want. i did the same thing to the 95 also. they both did not come on even when the def was on or a/c.. so i took matter into my own hands. a relay would be best to use but they can get pricy also. i just made my own fuse holder and shrined tubed it. i will take pics and show you if u would like.
