I have a '98, I have no idea what years have that dent in the headpipe from the factory but I know its worth it to get a rid of that headpipe if you do have it, that dent pretty much eliminates any benefits a header would give.

My friend's 99 has the "crush" in it. Or should I say "did".

You can have a headpipe made at a muffler shop for your Renix Jeeps fairly cheap. Here is the rule of themb. 3" lift, you can have one routed like stock although I don't recommend it. Stock height, have the pipe made in two 45* angles instead of the one 90* angle like stock so you clear the front driveshaft when wheeling.

See your newer one doesn't have a egr tube, that's the difference. O2's are different too.

The reason for the dent has always been to slow down the exhaust flow and heat up the converter sooner. It was never intended for clearance, only made to appear that way.

Wow I didn't know that. I guess you learn something new everyday. After reading your post I might consider running an HO header on the renix I have then. Well after dealing with the O2 and EGR. Thanks!
