Engine Mods
I have a '95 5-1/2 lift with 35" tires I would like to now get into adding some performance items to the engine. I hear so many pro's and con's to these add on's but wanted to get some feedback from some of you that have done them. First I will add a banks fresh air system the second would be to possibly go to the horseshoe intake manifold with a 68mm throttle body add a header and good exhaust system. Injectors 4 port 12 port not sure here either. I am looking for real gains, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Skip the Banks intake and go with the THOR cowl induction system or there are a few other intake systems that are better for your money than Banks. A 62 mm throttle body is all you need unless you enlarge the hole on the intake manifold, a 99+ manifold is a good idea while your in there along with an aftermarket header, better flowing exhaust and 4 or 12 hole injectors will help with throttle response. All of those mods won't gain you much more than 20 HP but it will make the engine more responsive, and give you more torque on the low end. Also if you haven't regeared your axles for 35s I would start with that.
Thank you very much for the reply, I put G2 Core axles underneath with 4:56 with some of the high black top mountain passes out here it is a slight struggle going up. I will check out the cowl systems.
My 96 ran great here in the high altitude with a pacesetter header 2.5 exhaust with high flow cat and supper 44 Flowmaster. also had a true cold air intake with a bored out throttle body. I never had any issues with lack of power, even had a guy in a Chevy pickup with a 383 stroker ask what V8 I had because he couldn't pull away from me. The 4.0 is a torque monster if you treat it right.

You could do the 99+ manifold, injectors, bored TB, new intake, etc. etc.
And I would be very surprised if you got anymore than a dyno-able 5HP gain.
Modifications and subconsciously thinking if feels faster...sure.

i saw a youtube video where they were testing the power gains on various mods mentioned here and when they put the 99 plus intake on they lost 10-15 HP. ill look for the video and post it.

Have you considered an aluminum cylinder head? I believe Edelbrock and a few others make a "performance" cylinder head for the Inline Six / 4.0.
