Default Electric fan switch

After reading the write up on the electric fan switch so it can be switched when I need it to and still be able to be turned on by the computer set up.

I m wondering if I wanted to leave the fan on for continuous use, would that damage the fan?

I plan to install a trans cooler in front of the radiator on left side where the electric fan is, and switch it so it will operate continuously. Would that be a bad idea?

I wired mine on a three way switch. Auto-off-on. I like to let computer control it when driving normal. It does not need to run when driving down the interstate. You can turn off, if in water. Turn on manually if on trail or heavy traffic.

I was in Atlanta two weeks ago. Pulling a trailer in 90 degree temps. Heavy traffic on interstate, never over 30 mph. Mine temps would climb to 210, I turn on fan and it would drop right back down to 200. so, I left it on in slow traffic, back to auto once moving good.

Yeah but my question was that would there be any harm done if I left it running on the entire time?

I plan to wire it in three positions like you did, as well, but I wanted to check if whether it would damage the fan more or not

I just did 94xjsport94's electric fan override switch write up, and I tapped into dark blue/pink and ran it in my dash and connected it to the switch, and connected the ground to other side of the switch. The fan didn't come on at all. It did throw a CEL though.

I know the fan works because when I turned on the ac, and it was running.

I also tried to moving the grounding location to the negative on battery, still not working.

I am stumped on this one.

It shouldn't hurt the fan running constantly. The overall fan life will be shorter because it is wear and tear on brushes.

But you want your 4.0 to get to proper operating temp. Otherwise your ECU will always be in open loop and your performance and mpg will suffer.

Great mod. Keeps me cool on the trail and traffic. To the one above. What year is your XJ? 97+ mod is a little different especially if you dont want CEL.

Mine is 99. I don't plan to keep fan operating all the time I was just curious if it was ok.

Check this thread out. I posted a schematic and the end that shows the no CEL bypass method
