Don't have any personal experience with them in XJ's but I know in past threads almost everyone agreed that they were a waste of money...

chips are in no way beneficial to XJ's, or most gasoline engines for that matter.

x2. Most are just boxes with wires sticking out of them. Just look up some reviews.

Those "performance" chips just change the reading on your IAT to make the computer think it is getting colder air thus adding more fuel. They are just a .10 cent resistor in a plastic box.

Don't screw with it, there is more to life than trying to squeeze a tenth of a horespower out of something by spending hundreds of dollars.

I ran an EBAY chip on my old BMW... it helped, raised the rev limit, took away the speed limiter... blah blah blah... felt a little more snappy too...

Not for me there isn't. One of the benefits of being a supporting member, no adds.

Waste of time.

Do you really need to mess with your rev limiter and speed limiter in a SUV made for off roading?

Re-gear for "more power" or do a motor swap.

The chip doesn't make it run cooler. Just makes the computer think its getting colder air. You can get a bigger difference from relocating your IAT and removing the restrictor in the airbox.

At best a gas chip on a stock vehicle is tricking your motor into sucking down more gas, advancing your timing the slightest bit and the "better" ones are capable of adjusting shift points and recalculating your speedometer.
You never see the gains they tell you on a naturally aspirated motor; the only reason diesels benefit so much from them is they run differently than a NA gas motor. Force the turbo to force more air and more fuel into the motor.
