not true. All the durango boxes have 3 bolt attachment like ours. If you got a box that has 4 bolts, it's not out of a durnago

physically - nothing. From what I understand the ratio is what is different - fixed vs variable, and slightly lower than the stock XJ's.

Hey Dukie I called the JY looking for one.. they said 70$... is that reasonable? I see the re-maned ones online are around 150

no the spacer is designed to be used with the stock box. The durango box has a larger diameter, so you will need to use a couple washers to add some extra clearance, regardless of which spacer you use.

not necessarily. but it is recommended. the spacer alone will not make the durango box fit, you still need washers.
here is a stock spacer. broken on purpose by me to see how strong it was. it took practically no effort...

this is a JCR 3/16 spacer and my steering box bent it after a couple months of use. not sure how but it happens

and if you look closely you can see 2 small gold washers in between the box and the red spacer. thats all you need (for all 3 bolts) to make the durango box fit. they were a pain I recommend having an extra pair of hands around for the swap

Hey Dukie,
After reading your write up I am going to get the Durango steering box to replace my trashed stock one. I tried adjusting the bolt on the top. Steering itself tightened up but the wheels still feel like they float from side to side. I said screw it and am about to re-do the entire front end.
I had a question about the spacer. I just ordered one from Iron Rock Off Road to replace the stock one. I assume I will still have to use a couple of washers on it to get the spacing correct?
Also, what am I looking for as far as spacing is concerned? How do I tell if I have everything installed correctly and spaced correctly? I know it is a direct bolt on but beyond that I want to make sure everything is lined back up correctly and I don't know how to do that.
Hope that makes sense.

Yea you'll still need the washers. Two on each bolt was enough for me. You need to space it out far enough that you can bolt it up without it hitting the framerail
