Drivers seat further back and lower
I'm 6' 2" and need more leg room and head room in my '98 XJ. I see a thread on this forum where someone cut their seat brackets to lower the seat and I see that Misch4x4 sells "Big Boy" brackets to get 3" of extra leg room. Is combining these two the best way to lower the seat and get it back further or are there other options? Does anyone sell seat mount brackets that accomplish seat movement in both directions?
Thx
Thx
I can understand more leg room but recline the seat more. I’m 6’3 and sit in a position where I have about 3” of head room if not more. I’m not gangster leaning or anything either.

If you are going to cut out a section of the vertical portion of brackets to lower seat, top half of bracket can be shifted rearward then welded back together. This will lower seat and move it back.
I'm 6'4" and bought the big boy brackets and bought a manual seat base to replace my power one. There is more material you can cut out from it. If I remember correctly I cut 1-1/4" out of the base and re-welded it. I don't even have the slider all the way back because there's enough room now. My keys don't hit my knees anymore either!

I'm 6'5" and have plenty of headroom; as long as I don't wear a ten gallon hat I'm fine.
As far as leg room, one easy solution is to just mount your seat a few inches farther back. I mean the whole bracket and seat assembly. The PO of my 2-door did it and I never realized that what he had done until I took the carpet out. It works for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I did recline the seat a bit more than felt comfortable and obviously improved the head room issue. Soaked the seat bolts (quite rusty) with some PB Blast and will try to remove the seat this weekend after our 24" of fresh snow melts and it warms up... Spring is an elusive beast in Northern WI this year. Last year I already had the boat out by this time. This year 30" of ice yet on area lakes.
I work for a metal fab shop and can likely make my own big boy brackets once I get the seat out to see what I'm dealing with.

I'll have to do the same thing....the more you lean the seat back, the more you risk breaking the latch in the seat itself on the pothole infested roads around here.
I do sit upright pretty much, but will change the mounting points before I change how I sit & drive. Got some medical issues that make tilting the seat too much uncomfortable & painful.
