I currently have a Mile Marker 12000lbs electric winch. The friends I go offroading with all have PTOs and winching uphill for me with an electric winch...well...takes a lot of time.

I plan to install a second winch - Hydraulic. Has anyone installed a dedicated hydraulic pump on the XJ just for the winch?

 

Haven't seen anything, so its not super popular.

 

I know. Want to run a separate pump for the winch. Not easy steering 35" tires in the mud without power steering. Plan being considered is to use the belt tensioner pulley.

 

Hydraulic winches are slower then most electric winches. Most of the HYd winches I seen run off a modified power steering pump.

Keep in mind a PTO winch runs off the engine.. so YOU can speed that up/slow it down as neeeded.

 

Can't get a PTO into the XJ unless I change the gearbox.

Could get a twin motor electric winch..gigglepin or Warn 8274...fast but unfortunately too expensive.

Only other viable option is Hydraulic...no stress of overheating the motor.
