Default Death of a stroker...unexpectedly

So my buddy has been driving my old 92 for about 2 years now.about 5 years ago I dropped a stroked 96 block and head into it. Had all the usual stuff in it 12cw crank melling hv pump comp cam 68-232-4 cam mopar hp springs to match that cam ran reliably for 50-60k about 2 weeks ago it started running rough and then it wouldn't start....just crank. Did all the tune up stuff new plugs cap rotor fuel filter and fuel regulator..wouldn't hold pressure noticed crappy spark at plugs...changed the cps it was original..no help found the rotor was intermittent during cranking...pulled out the distributor gear looked perfect...found the cam gear was missing big chunk on one side.both gears had oil on them. How does the steel cam gear strip but the brass distributor gear looks pristine don't get it

Because the HV pump caused the cam gear failure most likely.

Would have thought the softer distributor gear would have gotten wiped first

the distributor has pretty much zero resistance. its just a shaft thats spinning. the oil pump puts all the stress of turning that pump on the camshaft gear
