Dana 44 Swap
Hi i own a 96 cherokee with a 3 inch lift and trimming and i offroad with it 90 percent of the time, it gets beat but thats what a jeep is for and so far its come back for more, however the other weekend i blew both front and rear axles, [Dana 30 and 35] so the question being, i am looking at swapping in a dana 44 from a jeep rubicon jk.. i know the dana 35 parts as far as the spindles and hubs are the same but will the axle bolt right up to my xj? help please

The rear dana 44 will not be a direct swap. The leafspring perches need to be welded on it and the old coil spring perches cut off. So in short no it will not be a direct swap without some work, but can be made to work. You also need to do soemthing about your brakes aswell I believe.

dana 35 spindles? 35 is a rear axle. the 30 doesnt have spindles either and neither does a jk44. both have 2 different unit bearings.

the dana 35 is a rear axle. the 30 is the front. neither the jk44 or xj dana 30 use spindles. they have a unit bearing setup. the jk44 and the xj30 do not have interchangeable outer parts.

mike, do some research and figure out what you are talking about. if you dont know what parts your jeep has, maybe you shouldnt worry about swapping/fabricating axles just yet.....
