Depending on rust factor you should be able to double nut the stud and back it out. Thats how i did it but i am in AZ and not much in the way of rust.

Ok, I'm in ohio with a pretty rusty underneath. I am wrapping up my lift and did the tc drop on Sunday. Took about an hour. Have pb blaster and a torch handy, it really helps a lot. The 2 bolts I cracked loose after heating (didn't want to take a chance on them breaking so I did everything in my power to prevent that). After they cracked loose, I hit it with some pb and hit it with fire again. Then I tightenend, went back and forth and then back them out.
The studs I heated as well to get the nut off. You could drop the tc low enough to double nut it, but I just torched it, and clamped on vice grips, worked it back and forth, torched again and spun it out with the vice grips. Sprayed up in the unibody with PB and put the spacers and new bolts in.

Right on! I been a vw guy since I was 18, 30 now sold my last one a few years ago. I kept it old school though, 80s sciroccos, lots of those, rabbits, jettas, golfs, cabriolet. Been to a couple waterfests, that weekend was always a blast.
