so i want to upgrade my differentials or just differential to dana 44 but some people say they just leave the front differential alone and just change the back one to a dana 44 but like always put the same gears
i have a 92 cherokee 5 speed manual 2 door
so i was wondering what gear ratio to go with since i have 33's and maybe later on 35's
my idea was leave the front differential dana 30 i believe and change the back to dana 44, put 4.56 gears for both with a autolocker carrier
any suggestions?

I would run 4.56's with 33's have a few buddy's with 4.56's and 35's. they don't mind it one bit. but i am sure you will get some mixed opinions...

this sounds like a good plan to me, the D44 is rare (can be hard to find and cost a bit of money) the C8.25 rear out of a 97+ is a 29 spline and almost just as strong as a D44, but cheaper and easier to find just to give you another option depending on how much you want to spend and can find.

The C8.25 is out of a jeep cherokee. bolts right in like a D44 out of a cherokee. same mounts, shock location and wheel pattern
the Ford axle is a 8.8. these need some more "fabrication" to fit. not a ton of work but welding and brackets are involved. as well as converting to disc if you get one with that as an option, also can find them with a LDS and are very strong and have your current wheel lug pattern. tons of writeup on those for more info, if you can fab and want to go bigger or are hard on it this might be a better swap.
but i bet a d44/C8.25 would do fine. unless you want more then 35" tires...

yeah from 84 to 2001 the jeep Cherokee(xj) has always had 5x4.5 lug pattern from the factory. Unless you have one that the axles have been swapped on its 5x4.5 .
