Dana 44 questions
I got my d44 rear from an 87 xj waggoner I also got the front axle thinking it was d44 also.. But it was not. I'm in the process of swapping them both in. I put the front in just so the gears would match. But my question is about the brake line distribution block the D35 had a tube coming out of the Mount and into the frame.. The d44 distribution block only had a small bolt mounting to the able tubing.. And what looks like a grease fitting. What are these and what do I do with them?

the "grease fitting" is actually the vent tube for the axle. the fitting you pulled off the d35 and is first pictured is the old vent tube from your d35. the tube will just slip off your old fitting and onto the vent tube fitting on the d44

I just recently did this swap myself.
What I ended up doing is plugging the D44 vent fitting with a bolt. The bolt that holds the brake line distribution block on the D44 however was a different size from my C8.25. So I ended up having to drill and tap a hole on axle housing of the D44 to accept the C8.25 vent fitting/brake line distribution mounting hole.
Just as an FYI, I also went with a '99 Explorer rear disc swap with new steel brake lines. I ended up using '96 ZJ rear brake rotors for the swap that mounting right up to the '99 Explorer brake hardware.
I had no issues mounting my drive line right up to the D44. I used to have a C8.25.
The one issue I haven't corrected is utilizing my E-Brake function. There are aftermarket cable that can be bought separately that can be used with '99 Explorer rear discs and the OEM E-Brake hardware.
