Dana 44 identification
Found a guy selling a dana 44 rear that he claims is out of an 89 cherokee. How do I tell if it is the correct 44 and not from a different jeep? Have a 95 sport and want it to bolt right up( other than drive shaft length?) new to this, so any advise would be a great help.

Ok, checked it out and it has different bolt pattern. But he has matching 44's in good shape 100 for the pair. But has drop on wrong side. Dang, thought i found a great deal on an easy swap.

It had a passenger side drop? the dana 44 from under a waggy are a good 44 to have and the price is cheap enough. I'm not sure if the drop can be changed or what kind of mods will let it work ( I'm sure someone will chime in) but for the price I would look into it and see if it was more trouble than you want or not. I too am in the research mode of axle swapping. check out this link it's pretty helpful http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=101345

i was under the impression that AMC20s were more common underneath waggys. when i saw FSJ i mean cherokee. those stopped in the early 80s, wagoneers were built until 91.

Did little more research. It's a matching set out of a full size waggy. He just kept calling it a cherokee. What would i have to do to deal with the pass side drop? And I'm from indiana.

It's a six-digit number with a one- or two-digit suffix. The first six gives original application, the suffix gives individual variation.
BoM numbers may be run on the "Dana Expert" site - www.dana.com and follow the prompts.
