Default dana 35 locker

Hey guys... hopefully I'm on the right page...

I'm looking for opinions on a dana 35 locker that came out of a jeep wrangler... its a Detroit e-z locker and tractech... that's what the box says on the pic... its also 27 spline...

And I guess the ultimate question... would it fit on a 88 cherokee, I'm pretty sure I have a dana 35, its all stock... for the differentials at least that I know of

If you have a D35 then sure, but it would be a quick tickin' time bomb. The D35 is not really worth locking unless you really want to break it.

And is there any way of noticing that its bad, cracked or not buying it?

Can I ask why its a ticking time bomb?

And is there a way to prevent it...

Here's one of many threads that could give you some insight.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/lo...s-talk-103573/

There's a guy or two on there saying they don't have issues, but for every 25 bad D35's, there might be one good one. Or those guys just aren't wheeling hard enough! How to prevent it? Replace it. Dumping $1000 into it for the Super 35 kit mentioned in that thread would be a waste.

Yup unbolt it from the jeep and slide a junk yard 8.25 or dana 44 in its place. Then the 35 will be safe sound. It should last for years that way

Yeah. Most newer models have them. In fact, I know there is one at u-pull with 3.07 gears right now...

Many, if not most Cherokees over the years have the 8.25 under them. These are non-ABS axles that switched from 27-spline to 29-spline for 1997 and above models--that's the desirable one to have.
