Negatory. The only reason the vacuum disco works is because the differential is open. When in 4WD the diff will send all of the power to the little stubby passenger side shaft and not turn the driver's side wheel. If you weld the diff all you'll get is a selectable 3WD/4WD.

Certain Volvos had Dana 30s in the rear with LSDs from the factory. (You can actually seap thrm into a Jeep D30 front.) Shimming that to deal with a worn clutch pack makes some sense. Shimming your spiders to make them bind is insane. Welding is safer and more reliable by comparison lol
