dana 30 poor mans lsd?
I was told by a rear old timer wheeler to shin my front end for a poor man's LSD. Said its better than welding . I'm build my xj and hoping to do full width axles next year.so I don't want to spend anymore money in the axles.
Rear is locked running 33 5.5 inch lift (jeep does really well)
Thank you for your help.

He was most likely referring to shimming an already existing LSD to make the clutch pack tighter. Your Dana 30 does not have an LSD.
You have an open front axle.

I already have the vac disconnect. what he told me was to shim the spider gears tight then you roll the 2 other gears in and pin. so it'll pull both tires but in a bind the gears will spin (poor man's lsd).
This is a trail rig and I do have a spare axle sooooo?

Ive heard of doing that to try to get better traction. I wouldnt do it though. Diffs have to be set up just right to work properly, and run smooth and quiet. You go trying to add shims in there to tighten everything up more than its supposed to be, you'll probably have problems. Not worth the chance imo.
Either buy some type of traction aid, or leave it alone.

Dont get me wrong, I'm all for locking the front diff, but if you're gonna weld it or put a spool in it, you need to be able to disengage that 2 piece front axle shaft. I have a spool in the front of my Silverado, and I wouldnt consider trying to drive it down the road with the front hubs locked.

Go for it, post pics. Breaking all your **** is a way better idea than a 250 dollar auto locker.

Great way to destroy your axle.
