the swap is simple. put in the way it was taken out. suspension didnt change in our cherokees. ever.

Correct the 89 should be HP but it could have a vac disconnect tho. and the 00 should be LP but either was they are direct bolt in. The only thing i can think that may be differant is the length of the driveshaft but it may work fine.

if he has the 242 tcase then it is a non vac axle. i agree with you on the driveshaft length, the the front ds has enough slip to compensate.
got the 231 and it is indeed the POS vacuum connect. I may have been backwards on my HP and LP. Just saw an oppurtunity to fix my worn out front end for FREE and its looking like that is the route im going to go.

just so you know, the LP is weaker than the HP. try finding a dana 30 front from a xj with a 242.
