Default D30 regearing help and truss info

I'm going to be doing a 8.8 with 4.10s soon and need to regear my front to match. I have a spare D30 with 3.07s from a 96' and the current one under my XJ with 3.55s. Can I use the carrier from either? Any special gears I should get? I've searched a bit on here and have been trying to buy parts on Summit but there's reverse cut gears and all this other stuff that's got me confused. Should I upgrade anything else while I'm in there? Not sure if I want a locked front as this is my temperary DD. 35x12.50s are in its future tho, hence the 8.8 swap. Also, what's all this truss and gusset stuff? Added strength? I can weld and have access to some decently thick sheet steel. Also I plan on front/rear diff guards already. Thanks.

yes trusses and gussets add strength. truss keeps the axle tubes from flexing some

If you go up to 4.10 in the d30 you'll have to have a new carrier.

Reverse cut gears are for 97+ D30 axles.

im ru a lock right locker in with 4:56 mine is a dd at 70 mph im running about 2700 rpm and getting 14 mpg on 35s im running spartin locker in the rear i have no problems and you dont have to replace the front carrier unless your locker you deside to run requires it make sure you do your research before you buy there is alot of people on these sights that talk out of there ***. i did mine about 2k miles ago you dont need to waist your money and time on trussing that d30 unless you plan on jumping or haveing your foot to the floor all the time even then you will damage axcels first. i wheel alot with mine almost every week end i dont have any problems with mine but i dont hold the pedal to the floor. hence the term rock CRAWLING ( the bigger the better/ go big or go home ) hope this helps happy wheeling

please tell me how anything you just said helps him out...Make sure you think about the crap you type and read some of the posts before you tell the people who've given him the correct information that they're taking out of their @$$.
BTW... Yes you DO HAVE TO replace your carrier depending on what gears you are running. As stated the carrier break is 3.55's and lower, 3.73 and up is the carrier style you'll need for your 4.10's bud. If its your mild wheeler/ DD then i wouldn't worry about a front locker.

Its my DD right now cause my car has a blown motor lol I'm gonna need a front locker, I'm building my XJ for some local mud bogs during the summer and occasional weekend wheeling, not much rock crawling. For the mud bogs its gonna pretty much be wide open until I either dig in or pull out the other side, that's why I was asking about trussing.

well i do know this the d30 one of the choice axcels for mud racing BUT that is with big horse power when the front end isnt on the ground much or very little i had a 2 sec rail for a while before it got too expensive they are light and will take abuse. trussing a 30 is a good idea for an xj high ground clearance they do make a kit to look into that will take a different carrier it goes to bigger 30 spline axcels from 27 spline if you want to keep the d30 it would be the way to go and truss it the u joints in the knuckels get bigger when you truss it you will have to gusset the knuckles or cut them off and get bigger one i think there is more than one maker i think ballistics fab is one of them. hope this helps your research
