Default Crankshaft swap in 4.0

Can I swap just the crankshaft out of a 4.2 into a 96 4.0 with out any other mods done to the engine?

the 4.2 crank has a longer stroke than the 4.0. i mean you could put the 4.0 rods on a 4.2 crank but the piston would never reach top dead center.......

I believe the only way you would be able to use the 4.0 rods and 4.2 crank is if you get the Keith Black Icon 944 pistons. Those are around $500 alone.

How are resourcing the 4.2L crank? If its a donor engine just take the connecting rods out.
