Default Cold air intake

I have a 01 xj 4.0 stock with 31s I'm thinking about getting a cold air intake set up is it a good idea I know you get better throttle response but no actual HP gain and how does that affect MPG

Getting one isn't going to hurt anything.

I just finished installing my cowl intake, easy to install quite cheap and really opens up the engine bay with the removal of the factory air box.
Haven't put too many miles on to know if I've saved on mpg's.

For a true CAI, go with a cowl snorkel. Spectre sells a prefab kit like pictured above, or for $25 you can make your own...

Gonna need exhaust upgrades to get the most out of the upgraded intake. Cat back at least. Free-er flowing

I recommend the spectre Cowl intake. Works great for me.

I would say DIY a intake for it. for one no big gains unless other mods are with it IE exhaust and bored tb. spend less money diy and be able to do more

I do have abs but only in the front and drums in the back I'm pretty sure there all like that all xjs 86 through 01.
But a buddy told me that I'm going to burn more gas in the winter because the engine is to cold so it tries to warm itself by adding more Gas to the mix idk for sure tho he's not a jeep guy but he does wrench on a lot of cars

I got the kit for $600 shipped from a buddy of mine at dbtruckcustoms.com.
It comes with a 62mm throttle body, flashpag, and Cai. I felt a major difference after adding it, but to make it better its best to change the muffler also.

the spectre cowl intake is by far the best ive seen. really the only one out there that provides cool air. the rest out there are really just "cone on a stick" designs that suck hot engine air.

Yup and it gets the intake up away from taking in water in crossings much better function in a jeep imo
