Hey guys, I have a 1994 XJ with the idiot light cluster and was wondering if anyone could help me swap in gauges from a different year. I know that I could put in a same-year cluster but i'd prefer to keep the look of my current cluster. I found a 1988 cluster with similar look but I think I'm gonna need help installing it because it's from the 4 cyl XJ....

Now I know if i'm adding the gauges i need to add the sensors, but what I'm wondering basically is if I can swap in the 88 4cyl cluster into my 94 6cyl and get all gauges working correctly. Anyone able to shine some light on this?

I would never try to get that cluster to work. First of all, you're talking about a mechanical speedometer versus an electronic one. Then the sending units may or may not be even close. Then, the tachometer on a 4 cylinder versus a 6 cylinder is going to cause you even more grief. You're just adding a headache to your life trying to save $75-$90 or keeping a "look" and getting the right cluster in the first place.
